When Shelley first imagined herself performing her favourite Brazilian songs in their birthplace of Rio de Janeiro, she dismissed the idea as crazy. She had never been to Brazil, didn’t know anyone there and didn’t speak the language. She was just a hobby singer who loved Bossa Nova music. It took a life-threatening illness to push her into action. Diagnosed with a serious heart condition, she had to undergo open-heart surgery. Surviving the operation and making a full recovery, she came to realise that we are not here forever. She embarked on a quest to perform her own show in Rio. Shelley achieved this audacious goal in just three years, performing with new Brazilian friends in a historic, iconic nightclub in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. This is a quirky, fun and uplifting story of determination, perseverance and achievement against the odds.
