BANJZIG is the ‘top traditional Celtic-folk-glam-rock band in the entire central Footscray area’. They blend the jigs, reels and sounds of the Pogues, the Dubliners, and Planxty with high-energy classic songs of the Misfits, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, and Motörhead. The band is made up of musicians from Mauritius (East Africa), Katamatite (Victoria), and ‘Parts Unknown’ (Unknown), who combine traditional Irish and Scottish instrumentation of banjos, octave mandolins, ‘banjpipes’ (synthetic Uilleann /Highland Bag Pipes), with bass guitar, drums and percussion including larger-phone and Bodhrán. BANJZIG forges a raucous pact between ancient pagan Celtic folk and scorching heavy metal.

We're professional, we're punctual, and we put on a performance to remember. We love playing lively, danceable music, and putting on a high-energy, memorable, and fun theatrical performance. We love combining traditional instruments with classic daggy heavy metal and punk rock from the 19170s, 80s and early 90s. We usually dress in our wild celtic pagan gear, but can 'tone it down' for different settings when appropriate. Expect a great session of high-energy, danceable music; wild theatrical antics, kilts, horns, masks, and an appropriate level of silliness and fun.
We can use venue gear or be entirely self-sufficient, bringing mics, PA/mixers, all instruments, etc. We just need appropriate power points.
We do a mix of covers blended with traditional Celtic jigs, reels, polkas, etc. Songs include Ace of Spades, King of the Faries, The Wizard, O'Neil's Marches, South of Heaven, Mother, Morrison's Paranoid Jig, Glasgow Reels. Bones, Skulls, War Pigs, Crazy Train, Rocky Message/Road to Dublin, The Trooper, Cunla, Black Leg Minor, Halloween, Harvester of Constant Sorrow, Emerald, and about 100 different jigs and reels.
Contact us to discuss options. We can do a single set, a double set, or three sets, starting with quite an 'acoustic' / 'unplugged' style set.
